Biography
Kate Royce has been writing and performing her original
music for over 25 years. Inspired by nature's pure beauty, respect
for the earth as a magnificent creation, love of family, friends,
and God's unending love for his children, Kate Royce delivers a
fresh sound in folk music. A review in Cross Rhythms magazine reads,
"There is something of a mother nature quality [in her music]
that is reassuringly calm and secure away from the madness of the
21st century that is surprisingly charming."
Kate remembers, "My first guitar was an S&H
green stamp plywood beauty when I was 10 years old. I would sit
on my front steps and figure it out, while neighbor kids rode by
on bicycles and scoffed. Untrained, I still can't read a note, but
I'm in love with the discovery that takes place even today."
Kate was never concerned about the technical side of guitar playing
because she writes and sings, then and now, for the pure enjoyment
of it. Songs come to her quickly, she says, and recalls writing
some songs in just a few hours. Kate is stirred by the moment and
captures the feeling, preserving it in the form of a song, while
still in the moment.
Kate is a traveler. She calls herself an "adventurer."
Young and free, Kate had worked at the south rim of the Grand Canyon,
from there embarking on a journey up the coast on Highway 1 on a
motorcycle. Now her favorite "hangouts" include the Green
Mountains of Vermont, the Big (blue) Sky of Montana, Wisconsin for
it's seasons, and most recently Alaska. Each place renews her mind,
body, and spirit, inspiring her music.
You'll find Kate in a variety of performance venues.
She's been spotted performing at coffeehouses, retreats, special
concerts and fundraisers, even farmer's markets. When she plays
for churches, weddings, and funerals, she writes a new song particular
to the event and circumstances. "There is a deep joy found
in sharing what I love to do." For some, her songs are keepsakes,
for others they are an anthem. Kate Royce continues to share what
she loves to do with an ever-widening circle of loyal listeners.
Her latest album, Romantic Alaska, encompasses a range
of songs old and new
In Cross Rhythms magazine, her album
"coming home" was given an eight out of ten rating
